Dr. Mercer was born in Austin, Texas in 1966. throughout his life he has lived in Louisiana, Alabama, Oklahoma and Kentucky before settling in Florida in 1997, with his wife of nineteen years Stephanie. Together, they have seven children: Victoria, Benjamin, Caroline, Alexandra, William, Katherine, and Timothy.
Dr. Mercer graduated in 1997 with distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. He is also a member of the American Dental Association, West Coast District Dental Association, and the Sarasota county Dental association.
Dr. Mercer practices with the philosophy of a conservative yet thorough approach to dentistry. He listens to his patients and addresses their concerns.
